Sunny Bhattacharjee, is a 21 year old, part time animal rescuer and full time engineering student from Bhilai, Chattisgarh. His story has inspired alot his acquaintances, here’s a snippet of his conversation with DesiWoof

“Know that the same spark of life that is within you, is within all of our animal friends, the desire to live is the same within all of us…” – Rai Aren, Secret of the Sands

“As a kid, I never in my wildest dream could have imagined being an Animal Rescuer, but some 5 years ago, my brother Aditya told me about an animal rescuing organisation which he was working for, coincidentally my summer vacations were going on at that time and without much thought I joined the organization for recreation purposes. That decision changed my entire perspective towards the humankind as well as animals.

Over the years almost everyday we would be asked to rescue animals who were subjected to unfathomable cruelty by humans, there only bane was, that they were animals, strays to be precise. So far I’ve done approximately 1000 recuse of cows, dogs, pigs, snakes etc and I’m so disgusted by humankind as I see these animals struggling to live. Funds, medication, loving foster homes and health care facility is still a far cry for some of these animals. While working with the organization I realized that saving these helpless animals, is a joy like no other. It has motivated me soo much, my pet dog ‘Basanti’ is a rescue dog, when I first got her home she was in immense pain as somebody cut off her leg, I took her to the Vet but due to people’s apprehension to adopt stray dogs, let alone one with a missing lack, we couldn’t find Basanti a home, so I took her to my home and told my parents that she is a foster, within a few days, Basanti recovered from her trauma and became the life of the party at my house, she won over all of us with her innocence. I wish more people could see that, it takes courage to take care of an animal, but more than that it takes luck to be able to earn their love.

As somebody who has been actively working towards the welfare of animal community my only request to anyone and everyone is to be kind to animals, even if they aren’t actively donating or taking care of an animal, the least you can do is not hurt them, stay out of their way and if you ever see an animal in need, you inform someone who can help them. I don’t think that’s a lot to expect right?
